Academy Overview

The Missouri Western State University Regional Law Enforcement Academy is certified by the Missouri Department of Public Safety, Peace Officer's Standards and Training Commission, as a certified academy.

Two basic police academy classes are held per year.

The next academy begins in January 19, 2010.
Enrollment is limited to 45 cadets per class.
Enroll before January 4, 2010.

The program lasts approximately 23 weeks, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and meets and exceeds the State of Missouri's minimum basic training requirements for peace officer certification.

Admissions Criteria

• Must be a high school graduate or have received the GED certificate.

• Applicants must be free of physical or mental handicap which would prevent completion of the law enforcement program.

• Must be at least 19 years of age to attend and 21 years for a certificate to be awarded and for you to be employed by a law enforcement agency.

• Free from serious misdemeanor or felony convictions

• If applying for college credit, ACT requirements apply.

The Department of Admissions' Committee reviews all applicants on file. Selected applications are admitted without discrimination due to age, creed, ethnic origin, marital status, or sex. Problems that will keep students out of the academy are: a bad driving record, a conviction of any felony or crime of moral turpitude, or low academic assessment scores. Individual interviews of all applicants will be conducted prior to admittance.
