Youth Scholarships

Through Youth Scholarships, Center for Community Arts is committed to providing young students access to creative classes and programs, regardless of family financial hardship. 

Financial Assistance/Hardship Scholarships
To be eligible, students must be 18 years or younger, and a parent or caregiver must apply either online or in person by the application deadline of May 26 , 2008

Merit Scholarships
All students must be 18 years or younger, and a parent, grandparent or other primary caregiver complete the application form either online or in person by the application deadline of May 26 , 2008.

Applicants must also submit two required letters of recommendation signed by each reference.
1. Fine arts teacher (can be a private tutor/instructor or public/private school teacher within the art discipline listed on the application)
2. Adult non-relative who is familiar with the applicant's interest in his/her chosen art form (art, music, dance, theatre, etc.).

The letters should detail why he/she should be considered for this award, and reference writers are encouraged to cite or show examples of students achievement or potentials. Applications will be submitted for committee review, and up to two students per year will be awarded $50 tuition for two semesters toward any applicable Center for Community Arts class. Criteria used to select awards include, but are not limited to: dedication to study and/or practice, talent/potential, and plans for furthering and developing artistic interests/skills.

Recommendation letters can be delivered in person or via mail to the Western Institute, 4525 Downs Drive, St. Joseph, MO 64507.
