Driver's Education

Missouri Western State University and the St. Joseph School District will be offering Driver's Education this summer for $50 per student.

May 28, 2013 - June 10, 2013

(Classroom instruction - driving time may go through June 14)

July 8 - 19, 2013

(Classroom instruction - driving time may go through July 25)

Registrations will be accepted in person only on Friday, May 10, 2013

*Please complete the registration form and bring it, along with a copy of the student's birth certificate for our records. We will accept cash, or check. Students do not need to be present. Registration for these classes will only be taken in person on a first-come, first-served basis, begining at 7:00am, Friday, May 10th in the atrium of Leah Spratt Hall.

Requirements:

To enroll in this program, during the class and driving schedule, the student must:

be 15-19 years of age
(photocopy of birth certificate required)
be currently enrolled in school
not have graduated from high school.

If you do not meet these requirements there are spots available for $225.

Course Description:

Each course includes 30 hours of classroom work, 12 hours of observation time in the vehicle and six hours behind the wheel. Normal class time is 9:00 am-12:00 noon Monday-Friday. Driving and observation times will be arranged with the instructor, and may be scheduled outside of the dates the class meets.

Successful completion of the course will entitle you to receive a certificate verifying that all requirements of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education have been met. You do not need a permit for this class.

Please Note:

For this program to be beneficial to all students, some ground rules have been established. Discipline problems in the classroom or vehicle will result in removal from the program.

You must attend all classes and driving sessions to receive a certificate of completion. In the case of emergency or illness, contact the instructor for make-up work and time. Since classes and driving times will entail several hours of sitting, the instructors will schedule sufficient breaks for the students.

Calendars:

The following calendars outline the classroom and driving/observation times. Students will be given a calendar like this the first day of class to bring home. Each student will choose six three-hour blocks of driving/observation time. These slots are filled the second morning of class on a first-come, first-served basis.
