Rationale and Purpose
The purpose of these courses is to help prepare classroom teachers for the challenges of the diverse classroom setting. Topics include ELL methods, teaching strategies, and learning strategies to help English language learners (ELLs) in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills though the content areas.

Other areas of study include assessment techniques to ensure that students are meeting the AYP requirements of No Child Left Behind. Acquisition of a second language will be discussed for a better understanding of what is required of our ELL students in order to complete the basic tasks required in the classroom.

Materials will be presented that will increase the comprehension of ELL students while allowing the classroom teacher to address the learning styles of all students.

The endorsement to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages consists of 21 hours of coursework in addition to certification in another area. All courses offered in this program meet the requirements for certification.
