About Us

History
Pass the Power Adult Literacy was established in 1988 by Missouri Western State University to meet an unmet need in the St. Joseph area for basic literacy tutoring.

The program was designed to train community volunteers to provide one-on-one individualized tutoring to adults.

Five years ago small-group instruction in specific areas (workplace skills, math and GED) was introduced.

In 2008 a new program for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Conversation Partners, was launched in partnership with the local libraries and St. Joseph School District.
