STUDENT ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES



All potential students must:

  • Be a minimum of 17 years old and not enrolled in a secondary-level school.

  • Be able to state their name, address, telephone number and date of birth or age, independent from outside coaching.
  • Be able to coherently describe their educational history.
  • Must be able to perform self-care and not constitute a threat to themselves or others.
  • Have less than an eighth-grade reading level to enroll in the basic literacy program.
  • Be enrolled in an accredited GED program, if applying for GED tutoring services.
  • Make contact directly with Pass the Power to apply for services. If an individual contacts Pass the Power at the suggestion of another organization/agency, that organization may be asked to complete a form including the participant’s background information.
  • Keep scheduled interview appointments or call to reschedule. If an appointment is missed three times, the potential student must wait for six months to reapply to the program.
  • Agree to participate in a minimum of 15 hours of literacy activities per quarter.
  • Be able to make and keep tutoring appointments independently. If there are more than three unexcused absences, the tutor will be reassigned, and the student can reapply to the program after a six-month period.
