Western Institute offers research assistance through Community Information System for restorative justice and geographic information. The Youthful Offenders program is administered through an interagency agreement between MWSU and Western Reception Diagnostic and Correctional Center to provide opportunities for incarcerated youth to acquire higher education. Western Institute also offers a GED program through Western Reception Diagnostic and Correctional Center.
